IRL - What Were You Thinking in Edmonton?! PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 26 July 2010 07:46

I was a HUGE CART fan.  Great cars, great drivers, great tracks (even the ovals), and great competition.  Then "it" happened.  The split.  It was CART vs IRL, the nightmare.  If you're reading this website, you know the details along with the players in the drama.  To say I had a blind hatred for the IRL would be an understatement.  I vowed that I would never forgive, or forget.

Choppers Hot Rod Association Show PDF Print E-mail

Winter in Northeast Ohio challenges you to survive without going bonkers, especially if you are a a gearhead.  Sure the Detroit Hot Rod Show gives the snowbound hotrodder a shot of MUCH needed gasoline in the veins.  The Cleveland Hot Rod show, while much smaller in size also helps get us through the cold season, just barely.

I've heard of this little hot rod show in an indoor soccer plex in Canton Ohio, just south of Cleveland for a number of years, but I assumed that it wasn't anything good.  I should of known better.  Since 1956, a hard working bunch of hot rodders in the Choppers Hot Rod Association have been putting on a great little hot rod show and I'm ashamed to say that 2010 was my first year in attendance.

Detroit Autorama 2010 PDF Print E-mail

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, there is "something special " about being in the city of Detroit for the Autorama.  Electricity?  Knowing that you're in the hometown of Ford, Chevy, and Chrysler?  I don't know the answer.  I do know that the city of Detroit just oozes cars, and I like that alot.
I like this "car oozing" so much that I took over 250 pictures at this year's 2010 Autorama in Detroit!  I want to show you all 250 pictures, but that isn't going to happen.  You need to go to this show.  If you only go to one hot rod show in your life, it is this one.

This '33 Ford Phaeton is your 2010 Ridler Award winner.  Simple, classic, and perfect.

2010 Cleveland International Motorcycle Show PDF Print E-mail

I went to the 2010 International Motorcycle Show in Cleveland last night.  Six of my biker trash buddies along with a motorcycle virgin (“what does this lever do?”), went in a two car caravan to enjoy an evening of cool bikes, biker chicks, and some good food after the show.

I’ve been going to this motorcycle show for almost 10 years now, and last night was by far the busiest I’ve ever seen the show.  The crowds were huge.  All of the vendor booths were booming with people, you had to wait to sit on a bike, and Progressive Insurance even gave away some very nice bags with Flo’s picture on them.

It sounds like the perfect evening of two wheeled frivolity doesn’t it?  Not exactly.  As a businessman I was thrilled to see so many people at the bike show.  I was even more thrilled to see that they were in the vendor booths spending some cash.  As a biker, I was disapointed to not see Victory, BMW, KTM, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi, Triumph, Vespa, and Kymco missing from the show.  Royal Enfield even made it with a small, but nicely done display.  Why couldn’t those other big guys come up with a small display?  Last year, the Victory display was busier the any other booth by far.

My favorite vehicle at the show was this $56,000.00 trike by Campagna in Canada.  0-60 in 3.92 seconds.  144 mph top speed.  1.3 g's of lateral acceleration!  A video from the British show Fifth Gear was showing off the "capabilities" of this unique ride.  Amazing, incredible, and surely in the "gotta have it when I win the lottery" category.

Steve's Oze Rod Shop '37 Ford Roadster Build PDF Print E-mail
Written by Steve DiFranco

I've recently taken delivery of a life long dream project.  An Oze Rod Shop '37 Ford Roadster kit car has been delivered to me for assembly (you will find their web site link in our Web Links menu).  I've watched these kits for a few years now, and finally my dream has become a reality...sort of.  Actually you will be watching my dream become a reality.

Oze '37 Ford Roadster

Some of you will be able to "throw in your 2 cents worth" into the build as I go along as well.  All of you backyard mechanics can cheer me on or throw electronic tomatoes at me once the forum gets up and running.  For those of you who are building an Oze kit and using this article as a guide, read back through every once and awhile as I will update previously written areas to improve the content and the clarity.
